April 2nd ~ Life's Rewards
| Those of you who
follow my
blog, know about my involvement in the "Art
For Shelter Animals" project. I am happy to announce
that I have just been accepted as a team member of the group!
I met my local Animal
Shelter Staff and animals on Tuesday. The experience was
full of ideas, plans and emotion. I have donated five paintings
in less than three weeks, and have plans to do many more. It
is such a worthy cause and of course all of you know how I feel
about the animals! Please follow our progress and updates. If
you can get involved in any capacity, even if it is just for
a few hours a week please do! The animals and the great folks
who care for them need our help. Together, we CAN make a difference.
Please help the homeless pets in need. If you love animals like
I do, I promise, the rewards will far outweigh your sacrifice. |
"No person was ever
honored for what he received. Honor has been the reward for what
he gave." ~ Calvin Coolidge
"If you care at
all, you'll get some results. If you care enough, you'll get
incredible results." ~ Jim Rohn
"The highest reward
for a person's toil is not what they get for it, but what they
become by it." ~ John Ruskin

April 6th ~ Don't Quit
| Yesterday I held
a drawing workshop here. We covered a lot of ground and explored
many aspects and approaches. Drawing, like any skill, requires
repetition, study and a strong desire to do the work and learn
the techniques. I'm sure that most of you have seen this one
before. Over the years, I've had it pinned to my bulletin board
in college, carried it in my wallet when I ran my sign business
and have printed it out and given it to friends many times
when they needed a little encouragement. |
Don't Quit
When things go wrong as they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest, if you must, but don't quit.
Life is strange with its twists and turns,
As everyone of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about
When she might have won had she stuck it out;
Don't give up though the pace seems slow
You may succeed with another blow.
Success is failure turned inside out---
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell just how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far;
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit---
It's when things seem worst that you must not quit.

April 12th ~ Destiny
| I hope you are
all having a lovely holiday! I am enjoying some time with family,
as my folks are visiting us from Florida. Some of you may have
noticed that I didn't post on Thursday. It was the first time
I missed a day since I started this Spirit Art Blog in December
of 2005! I just got busy and did not feel it was necessary. Destiny
has led me to become involved in many varied blogs and sites
online where you can always read what's going on in my world.
I still plan on posting Spirit Art twice a week, but if I miss
a post here and there, don't be surprised as my mindset is shifting
with the times. |

denominator of men and women who achieve great things is a sense
of destiny." ~ Brian Tracy
"A true man never
frets about his place in the world, but just slides into it by
the gravitation of his nature, and swings there as easily as
a star." ~ Edwin H. Chapin

singular but our destiny is shared." ~ Barack Obama

April 20th ~ Simplicity
| This week on my
Inspiration
Everyday Blog, I'm featuring quotes on Individuality. I posted
this quote this morning, which relates directly to my presentation
at the Tuckerton
Seaport Museum yesterday. "How do you put your distinctive
stamp on your paintings? One way is to limit your equipment
brushes and number of colors." ~ Anonymous The more I think
about my lecture, the more confirmed I am in my belief that adding
unnecessary pigments to your palette and your paintings only
complicate and disambiguate the the work. My motto is; If you
want to make a strong statement, in practically any application
or medium, KISS; "Keep it Sensationaly Simple". |

is the simplifier." ~ Henri-Frederic Amiel
"Faithfully copying
every detail you see doesn't work too much detail destroys
the illusion." ~ Anonymous

It is the greatest source of so much in life that makes life
worth living." ~

April 27th ~ More Excitement
| It's been only
five days since I spotted our first hummingbird of the season.
Since then, I've seen a couple of females and at least two other
males. I've gotten lots of reports from friends that theirs are
coming home too. With the temperatures here being unseasonably
warm , (in the 90's), I'm expecting a sudden burst of activity.
I've got three feeders out and two hanging baskets up so far.
I'm here in hummer heaven! |
"My "Hummers"
are back also. Saw one yesterday, a number of times and again
today.
Funny how such a little creature can add such excitement!"
~ Lee Gates
"We put our feeder
out after your reminder report. Confirmed arrival of at least
one
little guy, this morning! Nice to see our little friend
has returned. Hope to attract more
hummers this summer! I made a syrup with one cup H2O to 1/4 sugar."

April 30th ~ Searching
| My art has always
been a journey of constant searching. Sometimes I can see in
my mind and feel in my soul, that which I seek. If things don't
go the way I plan however, I've learned the best thing I can
do is to listen to the work and let it take the lead. Losing
oneself in the process can ultimately enlighten and provide exciting
new discoveries. No matter what the consequence, in art and in
life, I feel that the act of searching and learning is a necessary
endeavor that should ultimately elevate one's work and evolution. |
